The South African Legion badge is an important symbol used on uniforms. It represents pride, identity, and tradition. For this project, the client required a fully customised embroidered badge that matched their original design but with several important changes.

The badge needed to be clean, bold, and suitable for uniform use. High accuracy, correct colours, and premium bullion hand embroidery were very important for this order. Every detail had to be clear and professionally finished.

The Requirement

The client contacted us with a reference design and clear instructions for changes. They carefully marked what needed to be updated while keeping the original layout the same.

The main requirement was to improve the design while keeping its identity strong.

The client requested:

  • All red shades to be changed into one solid red colour
  • White areas to be converted into black
  • Text colour to be updated to blue
  • Yellow areas to be replaced with gold bullion embroidery
  • All unwanted shading is to be removed for a cleaner look
  • The original shape and structure are to remain unchanged

In addition to design changes, the client also required specific production details.

The badge had to be made using Classic bullion hand embroidery to give a rich and raised finish. A black fabric base was required to create a strong contrast and make the design stand out clearly.

The client also asked for accurate shape cutting so the badge could be easily stitched onto jackets and uniforms without any issues.

Overall, the requirement was for a clean, strong, and professional badge that could be used for official wear.

The Solution

After carefully reviewing the design and instructions, our team began by studying every detail. We worked closely with the provided reference to make sure all changes were fully understood before starting production.

First, we corrected all colours based on the client’s request. Red was made solid, white areas were changed to black, and the text was updated to blue. All extra shading was removed to give the design a clean and sharp appearance.

Next, we focused on improving clarity. The text, borders, and shapes were refined so they could be easily seen, even from a distance. Elements such as the crown, wreath, and central emblem were carefully aligned to keep the design balanced.

Once the design was finalised, we moved to the embroidery stage.

The badge was produced using traditional bullion hand embroidery by skilled craftsmen. Gold bullion wire was used to create the gold elements, giving a premium and raised effect. This method is commonly used in military and ceremonial badges because of its rich appearance.

The embroidery was done on a black fabric base to provide strong contrast. Each section of the badge was stitched carefully to maintain sharp edges and clean lines.

Special attention was given to fine details such as the text and central emblem. These areas require high precision, and our team ensured that every stitch was neat and accurate.

Finally, the badge was cut into the correct shape with proper margins, making it ready for easy stitching onto garments.

The Result

The final embroidered badge fully met the client’s expectations.

The design was clean, sharp, and well-balanced. All colour changes were applied correctly, and the removal of shading made the badge look clearer and more professional.

The gold bullion embroidery stood out strongly against the black base, giving the badge a rich and high-quality appearance. The text and emblem were easy to read, and the overall finish was neat and precise.

The badge was also practical for use, with accurate cutting that allowed it to be easily attached to uniforms.
